Description
IF COMING UP WITH an interesting way to teach your 6-8 graders about ancient history is challenging for you? Look no further, I’m offering The Roman Empire Web Quest which is a PBL activity for collaborative groups that will enlighten your class with the wonder that was Rome.
INSTEAD OF SIMPLY LECTURING, reading a text, writing definitions, and answering questions, which will turn them off, they’ll become active rather than passive learners as they go back in time and investigte what life was like in Ancient Rome.
EACH COLLABORATIVE GROUP will choose one of seven areas to investigate, take notes on, and report back to the class what they’ve discovered. Finally, as part of their grade, they’ll be asked to write a diary entry of a day in the life of a Roman. If you also teach ELA, this written assignment can be used as a Social Studies and English grade. In addition to everything else, A mini-history book, graphic organizers, pre-writing pages and grading rubric are included in this comprehensive program.
I’M POSITIVE The Roman Empire Web Quest will leave a lasting impression with your students. It will be something they’ll remember even after they’ve left your classroom because it’s enticing, challenging and fun.

I REMEMBER being bored out of my mind in history class because the teacher just lectured. So all I did was look at the clock and wish I were some place else ANYPLACE else! Consequently, I learned very little. Years later, after becoming a 6th grade teacher, I gained a love of ancient history and vowed that I would make it come alive for my children. Above all, I didn’t want them to go through what I did. Suffice it to say, that negative experience gave me the impetus to use PBL learning in most of my teaching and I’m so glad I did.
