Description
ARE YOU LOOKING for something to honor our fallen soldiers? This bundle entitled 9/11, Veterans Day & Memorial Day Tribute will get your 5-7th grade kids thinking about those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
WOULD YOU LIKE to have your students engage in a realistic activity so they truly understand the meaning of heroism? This PBL 911 Web Quest, & Photo Journalism project is a set of hands on activities for your collaborative groups that is enticing, and challenging,
TWO HEROES, brothers John and Joe Vigiano, the former a police detective, the other a fireman, lost their lives in 911. Though I never met them, they mean a lot to me because they’re part of my family, my cousin’s wife is their cousin. I’m dedicating this 911 activity to them and those who sacrificed so much on that horrific day.
THE VETERANS DAY & MEMORIAL DAY activities are also personal to me since they center around a caring, honest and brave young man I taught in 6th grade. Capt. Andrew Pedersen Keel, one of my favorite students, made the ultimate sacrifice when he lost his life in Afghanistan.
MY HOPE is for your students to gain empathy for those who fought for us by remembering the ultimate sacrifices that so many made to keep us free.

♥I HAVE ANDREW’S PICTURE on my wall, and he’s always on my mind. I’ll always remember him as one of my favorite students. Yep, he was a scooch, a typical boy who questioned everything and wanted to know why we had to do this or that. He was a challenge, but I love kids like that. He also was a true friend who really cared about the kids. His kindness, humanity and honesty showed through at that young age. Please take the time to get to know your students, and show them how much you care. You never know what their future will bring. In case you’re wondering, I’m still in touch with his mom, we became close friends. Her pain will never go away and neither will mine.
